Which obviously, real estate is usually a better investment than stocks, but I still held on to that one (given my track record, that's an awfully low bar).

The other night I went to the local Chinese place to pick up a combo for myself. Chicken soo guy, with chicken chop suey, chicken fried rice and an eggroll.

It was the first time I'd ever been there without picking up two combos... my ex and I used to eat there once every couple of weeks - we were regulars. So it was kind of a lonely occasion... but I shrugged it off and tried to concentrate on the greasy goodness.

Anyhoo, my fotune cookie had TWO fortunes in it

- "You will soon receive help from an unexpected source."
- "You will soon receive pleasant news of a personal nature."

heh, there was in interesting article in the New Yorker a few years back profiling the fortune-cookie writer. He worked for Nabisco when they started creating the whole fortune cookie thing. He was some lab guy or accountant or something, and they approached him and asked if he wanted to write these fortunes.

Eventually, he was responsible for some 90% of the fortunes in all of the fortune cookies, as they were the largest distributor for many years. A lot of his fortunes came from phrases he noticed in advertising while taking the train to work, things he'd pick up on TV, or reading, whatever.
