Best Foods for Camping

I'm going car camping this weekend, and i normally just pack some steaks, eggs, bacon, and sandwich materials for lunch.

I was thinking of maybe mixing it up, and seeing what you guys eat. Especially what travels well during hikes and doesn't get all mashed in your bag while you're on your 5 mile hikes.
 
bake potatos in your camp fire. bring pancake mix too...
gosh, i wish i had more ideas, all the stuff i am thinking about needs refridgeration.
PBJ sandwiches too. marshmellows to put in those sammys!
 
Pick up a pack of country ham (doesn't require refridgeration) and some potatoes. Dice up the potatoes and have a nice country ham/hashbrown breakfast.

Also, most camping supply stores sell these sandwich makers where you clamp your sandwich in and hold it over the fire. Comes out nice and toasty. Could use some cheese singles (can easily get away without refridgeration) and make some grilled cheese sandwiches.

There are some "okay" canned meats out there that I probably wouldn't eat at home but come in handy on camping trips (but can add weight to your bag). Hot dogs keep pretty well with minimal cooling. I always take a pack of English muffins just to have something other than sliced bread. Jerky of course. Power bars for an energy boost on the trail. Mixed nuts make for good in-between meal snacks. And pretty much any fresh veggies or fruits that hold up well under those conditions.

I love camping. Can't wait to go back in the fall.

clam chowder
dinner rolls

cook the stew and chowder in their cans and serve right from there.
 
I don't have much to add but I like 49erinnc's suggestion about a sandwhich maker clamp deal. A couple years ago when we all went for a bash, a couple people brought those and ingredients for PUDGY PIES. Now I was super trashed and don't exactly remember them much, but they were awesome and I ate a ton of them.

Bread, pizza sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. I believe that's all there is to it. Man I just kept drinking and making those heh.

Well for breakfast and dinner we'll have coolers for refridergeration. so we can bring some more interesting foods.
 
Top Ramen with some additional vegetables added. Most veggies you could get away with not refridgerating for a day or two. Mac and cheese in the box.

Could also pick up some dehydrated onion, garlic, mushrooms, etc.
 
If you're lucky enough to get a Dutch Oven, there's a ton of recipes for it.

Or you could deep-fry a turkey if you're feeling brave.
