Best Food in your area

Everytime I go to a new town, I always like to eat at the local favourite. Its not the fanciest place in town, sometimes its a small joint run by a family but the food is wonderful. I make a list of the best places, places that are never advertised, places you could find only from the local people. Anyway I was hoping this might help others too.

So here goes

Berkeley, California - Cafe Intermezzo - Telegraph and Haste Street.

Best Sandwiches and Salad I've ever eaten.

Racine, WI - Gibson's Charhouse.

Great steak / prime rib, awesome seafood, some great pasta dishes, and good burgers / sandwiches. The atmosphere is awesome. Its slightly dark because of the high ceilings and dark wood trim. The tables and chairs are all made of mohogany. The waitresses are very friendly. Its like being welcomed to a friend's house for dinner.

This is for el cheapo college students. Nothing better than great tasting cheap eats!

Portland, OR
-Thien Hong: it's all about the Pepper Salted Squid.
-Acropolis: for $4, the steaks aren't bad at all. Did I mention it's a strip bar also? 😀

St. Paul, MN
-Saigon: BEST pho in the twin cities.

Minneapolis, MN
-Forgot the name, but there's an Asian place in shopping square just offa HWY 100 and Bass Lake Roade in Brooklyn Center that have the best hot n spicy chicken wings. I'll get the name later. THE BEST!

casa de pico located in old town san diego, ca. shame its closing down on 10/1/04 (city sold its soul to satan)

oversea's - located in carlsbad, ca. best chinese food ive had in san diego.

tacos el gordo - located on highlands in chula vista, ca and off h street i believe in chulda vista also. great t.j. taco's w/o the hassle of federale agents.

davis, ca:
el mariachi; 4th and G st
great somewhat fast mexican food

Sacramento, ca:
MacQue's; elder creek rd
incredible tri-tip sandwiches

London Ontario Canada.

Diner-Prince Al's
Indian-Curry Garden
Fine Dining-Possibly La Casa, but I haven't been there for awhile.

There's a pizza joint in Berkeley that's very well known. Zachary's Pizza. Especially the deep dish pizzas.... they are freaking delicious.

Ann Arbor, MI:

For a cheap lunch: Dinersty, $3.99 gets you a huge main dish, fried rice, egg roll and a drink or bowl of soup
Dinner on the town: Gratzi, excellent Northern Italian food
Another dinner on the town: The Earle, excellent Italian food also.
Drunk at 4:00 a.m.: the Fleetwood diner, it's in an old trailer at the corner of some pretty ritzy digs, but the city lets it stay open. You hear a new story from a different homeless guy everytime you're in there.

Madison, WI

Upscale - L'Etoile = french / organic food
Maharaja Lunch Buffet - inconsistent but usually good, great value
Marigold - hoitey-toitey sandwiches and breakfast

Hmm. That's difficult. The two that come to mind are:

Neko Neko's on Montrose, really delicious Greek food, and it's not expensive.

Then there's this tiny Cuban restaurant (I can't remember the name) tucked away near West Alabama and... man, I can't even remember. But it's awesome.

Cincinnati, OH

Mexican -- Jalapenos, I've been looking for 6 years to find a better salsa that they serve when you sit down. I haven't found anything! Plus their food is amazing and not too expensive.

Chinese -- it all tastes the same to me

Indian -- never had it

Seafood -- for hoitey toitey you can visit Mike Finkes on the river, plent of ~$50 plates. For cheap but awesome fish sandwiches, the best in the world, visit the small town of Verona, Kentucky and eat a Mr. Herbs fish sandwich with extra tartar sauce.

But my favorite restaurant, for price, amount of food, quality of food, etc is Jalapenos.

Pittsburgh, PA -- Primanti's, Bravo's (on the Waterfront)
Syracuse, NY -- Dinosaur BBQ, Bangkok (Liverpool .. good Thai)

there's far too many, but if I'm just hanging out with my friends, there's a 24-hour diner a few blocks from my apartment that we always go to.
