Any recommendations on best fishing rod for under $100? Mainly my father fishes for mountain bass, trout, and sometimes stripers. Is there a rod that can handle all these fishes?

Thanks

Umm..there are too many kinds of rods out there catered for specific applications.

Tea Bag mentioned fenwick which is a good rod but you should check what class you want. I.e heavy, fast action, medium heavy. If you are targeting stripers then look for Lamiglas or Fenwick. They are fun to use on smaller fish such as trout and will work on 20 lb stripers. Check the rating on the rods as well as well as the type of line you want to use.

umm...St. Croix are just as pricey as G. Loomis. What kind of fishing are you looking to do? Salt? Fresh? Inshore? Surf?

St Croix in that price range over 100 go with G.Loomis.

St Croix also goes slightly over a bill. G.Loomis can really become expensive.

Depending on the action, St. Croix 'Premier' series are within your budget paired with a decent (spinning) reel. -linkified - I'm doubting you'll need anthing higher then medium action for Bass or what not. But that depends on how stiff you (or him) likes them.

As for reels, I suggest Shimano, but that's a love/hate thing with alot of people. Okuma is another of my favorites but they tend to be pricy. If you were gonna buy one online instead of at a shop - I would go down and 'test drive' (open and close the face, act like you are casting) to see if it -feels- right like when it snaps back when you start reeling when the face closes. They are usualy rated by line capacity.

In all honesty, the best budget rods you can get are TICA's, hands-down. Short on dough, but need fish? Go Tica. Reel wise, Okuma are pretty good for the price/performance ratio.

Thanks a whole bunch! i'm going to the shop tomorrow to check out if they have these brands in stock. then maybe i'll order online since it seems they have a $20 off thing going on right now

I've only usead the UEHA series for Tica. I have about 3 Tica's but these are bigger surf rods. As far as surf rods are concerned, Tsunami is the best for the price.

What I think the OP needs is a salmon/steelhead rod from what he described.

I noticed that you live in Sac. I'll be heading there next weekend for some Stripers.
Tommorow I head out to Bean Hollow State Beach south of Half moon bay for some rockfishing.
