I am a fish lover. I grew up a block away from a fish and chips shop called:

H. Salt Esquire Fish and Chips

They had the very best fish and chips. I've tried Arthur Treachers and they are of poor quality. Captain D's is much better, and Long John Silver is probably in the middle. Has anyone seen a H. Salt Esquire Fish & Chips around? I would travel a distance to eat their fish and chips.

I've tried most of the pub style fish and chips and still nothing compares to H. Salt Esquire. It's been about 25 or 30 years since I have seen a H. Salt.
 
Zapster your not from the bay area are you??? we had H. Salts in many places around the bay... very tasty fish I must say!!! they still have one in W. Sacramento... in Yuba City they have a place that sells london style fish-n-chips and are as good as H. Salt, I go there quite often😀
 
I found a great place on the beach (local place) but it's kind of steep. I wish there was a cheap place for good fish n' chips where I live.
