I've had my WRT54G for about 6 days. I ended up flashing to HyperWRT+tofu11. It is enjoyable. There's a poll on Linksysinfo.org. Look at this:
Which WRT54G/GS Firmware do you use?

HyperWRT -------- 25.55% (960)
OpenWRT --------- 3.75% (141)
Sveasoft ---------- 14.53% (546)
DDWRT ----------- 24.97% (938)
EWRT -------------- 0.19% (7)
TinyPEAP ---------- 0.19% (7)
Freifunk ----------- 0.53% (20)
WifiBox ------------ 0.85% (32)
Official Linksys --- 29.44% (1106)

I've been using Satori for over a year now. When I started using it, you needed a 3rd party solution to get WDS working and I wanted to use an Airport Express to stream iTunes from my computer to my stereo downstairs and to link up my Xbox to Xbox live.

In general, it has worked pretty well, although I do occassionally have some small problems with the router and need to reboot it (maybe once a week max, more like once a month).

The stock firmware now supports WDS but I follow the if it isn't broken leave it alone style of computing, so I haven't flashed it back to OEM firmware.

I would assume that the newer version would be better. It wasn't available when I started using Satori.
