By the way, I encourage everyone to get FFXII. I bought the game in Japan and have gotten to the last boss (but died on him). Personally, FFVII is my favorite, but XII is right up there with it. It's a great game.

FFVII, no competition.

Very few games can make you feel like the game world really matters, really exists in some way, other than as 1s and 0s. I think it has something to do with the fact that the art and graphics are excellent, but simple, and leave plenty of room for your imagination. There is no attempt to make the characters and environments realistic in any way, so you never say to yourself 'that's crap, it's not real' because you know it's not supposed to be real - it's final fantasy. And there is no voice acting, so there is no bad voice acting, the characters just sound like you think they should in your own mind.

The bit leading up to the death of ***** is a good example - you are amazed by the abandoned 'promised land', but creeped out by it's ominous music, then you are shocked by the appearance of *********, and saddened when the cut scene begins. You really care about the characters, you find yourself thinking, 'damn, ***** is gonna be so cut up by this, what are we gonna do now?... and all this is achieved with a couple of 20-polygon models and a single piano... now that's suspension of disbelief.

Part 1.. it was the only one where you made your charactors.

After that it was just a movie director reject making stories for games that you sat there and read through.

Close race between 7 and 10. Since I'm only just now playing 7 (first time through), I'd have to give the nod to 10.

If I had played VII when it came out, though, there's no doubt in my mind that it would earn top spot in my RPG-kingdom.

has everyone here actually played all the FF's?

I've played them all except FF3 (the one coming out for DS soon) and FF12 (which is coming out soon) and I can easily say that FF6 is the most besterest!

I have not played: FF3 (Japan), FFX-2, and FF11 (does this even count?). I seem to be about 3/4 through FF5. About the same for Crystal Chronicles.

I also have not played that Devil May Cry-ish game that recently came out for PS2.

I like FF7 the best. It was the reason I bought a PS. Here my list.

1) FF7 - Just a great game, Graphic are dated now but I would play it again. And would buy a PS3 if they remade this game for it.

2) FFX - So far the best of the PS2 line of FF games. (I have not played FFXI Not a MMOG gamer)

3) FF8 - People bash this game, but I think it hads good plot.
3a) FFX-2 - Tried to be another FFX but fell short.
3b) FF9

4) FF1-6. I grew up on playing Ultima and these games are on par with them on a technology and story line.

FF 3 (US) Best
FF 2 (US) Better
FF 7 (US) Good

I stopped caring after 7.

Please no more Final Fantasy!

wow, wonderfully written. I think we all felt that moment of sadness when ****** had a Masamune go right through her. 🙁

5 and Tactics.

So much variety in 5 for your characters, and Tactics was yummy goodness, which is why I eagerly await 12 🙂

Seems to me that V or VI is the favorite of the people who've actually played more than VII.

That or Tactics. 🙂

Oh, yeah... I forgot that I had played/finished Tactics. Overrated. Period.

FF7 is still my favorite, despite having played at least 3/4 of nearly all of the American releases.

FF3 for the SNES is the greatest video game ever made. I don't know how many times I've played it, and I can't imagine getting tired of it. The characters are amazing, the battle system is best ever and what I judge all others off of.

FFVII is probably my favorite. As other posters have said, no other FF made me care more about the characters. Tactics is probably next, followed by VI.
