I'm considering replacing my 5770 with a fanless design GPU. What rates best among the fanless GPUs out there?

The machine is just a daily non-gaming rig with an i7 920.. less frequently I'll use Windows Live Movie Maker to encode vids if that makes any difference..

An HIS 7750, at least for a commonly available GPU. There's a nice GT430 from Asus, if you want nVidia and never, ever game.

I don't know if the 7850 is a good idea; it's got a LOT more power flowing through it, and watts in means heat out. Since you'll be using the GPU minimally, it doesn't really make sense to upgrade (the 7750 is roughly as good as a 5770).

Also, why do you need a fanless design?

I want to omit the fan whine I am hearing from my 5770. I can hear it at 20% fan speed. There is a faint electrical whine that when I stop the fan with tape the noise disappears.

For non-gaming and Windows Movie Maker using one monitor, literally any card should do

Yea with no gaming get a 6450.

The one Termie linked to above is a good choice.

It might sound silly to some, but one of the reasons why I didn't go with AMD for my latest video card is because I was tired of the awful fan noise. Prior to my GTX 680, my last three video cards were from ATi/AMD (4870, 5870, 6950), and I've grown to become easily annoyed by whiny fans, so I just couldn't stand the cooler. I've tried to describe the difference in person, and it's sort of a whir (AMD) vs. a woosh (nVidia).

Although, to be honest, if you just go with an open-air cooler, it probably wouldn't matter which company you went with. Also, since I don't own a 7000 series, I don't know if they have a better blower that isn't so whiny.
