What is the best as in quiet yet good CFM fan out there. I think the Chieftec Dragon series uses 80mm fans. Also i have a 400Watt allied PSU... it is loud as all get out... i think one of the bearing broke on the fans because i makes a lot of noise... sounds almost like the 5800Ultra only on a smaller scale.

Check out the PSU's and case fans at EndPCNoise I have 2 Pabst 8412 case fans, and a Nexus 300 watt PSU in my system, and it's very quiet. That site is a good resource, backing up it's products with data instead of fluff, since it posts dB output for all of their products.

use a fan speed controller with all your fans. thats what i do in my dragon type case. even with the psu fans, i just thread the wires throgh the grates😛 just be careful, dont touch the capacitors in there, they can hold very large charges. read some psu mod guide if dont know what your doing. i find most fans sound pretty quiet when paired with a fanspeed controller. how much a fan moves, depends on its rpm, and the higher the rpm, the higher the noise.

Very good advice. The ONLY thing I disagree on is using a Fanbus with the PS's fan. IMO, the PS fan should always run at a constant speed. Also, IMO, if you attach the PS fan to a Fanbus, there's always the possiblitly of accidentally "bumping" the control or something going wrong. Then you're left with a PS fan that isn't spinning and you don't know it.

Also, some people will put the CPU fan on the Fanbus too. That's just freakin' DUMB in my book.

Case fans = Fanbus all the way.

CPU and PS fans /= never put on Fanbus


If you're looking for the best fans, there is only one choice. Panaflo L1A.
 
ah yes, but i have a case door😉 dunno if he does though. depends on the knobs i guess, vantec speed controllers can't really be bumped. if ur paranoid, a fanmate 1 speed controller would work, it would be internal and only fnor the psu. if your paranoid, put each of the psu fans on a separate knob. would take quite a failure to take em both out.ussually one dies at a time. and fans ussually make a horrible racket when dying. this is the price we pay for quiet pc's on a budget. there are passive psu's, but those are costly.
