I've heard about certain fans crushing the duron chip, and I'm not particularly excited to see that happen. I bought a duron 900mhz (It says D1050 on the chip, maybe its a 1050mhz?) from the OCZ store, and I cant get it past 775. I assume this is because of my cooling. I bought an antec Fan, doesnt seem anything too special, so I figure I might as well try something else. How are the socket a golden orbs? I heard that these were the ones that crushed the duron chips...but I've also heard that theyre some of the best coolers...so have they released a version of it that doesnt crush the chip? Also, whats the deal with thermal grease? Is it useful/necessary? How on earth do I apply that stuff?

Globalwin fop32-1 does a real good job for around $23 matches alpha6035 performance for cheap.

I doubt you'll hit 1050mhz unless you hit 850mhz with default voltage.

I also heard thermal grease doesn't work well with socket processors but thermal compound works better.

The GlobalWin is a good option. Tell me you have at least "some" heatsink and fan on the thing.

Something like Artic Silver compound is a good recommendation. What you want is an extremely thin layer between the heat sink and the CPU. That's not even close to instructions on how to apply it, but it's a start. Biggest thing to remember: heat bad.

Whats the difference between thermal grease and thermal compound, and how much does it cost? Ive got some vantech fan on it right now, nothing too special. And whats the maximum amount of voltage I should even attempt to use on a duron?
