What is the best fan/heatsink combo for cooling the Thunderbird? My processor is running very hot and i'm not comfortable with this.

I have a Golden Orb right now, but it's not doing much.

Alpha PAL6035 with Delta 60MM / 38CFM fan (Loud as heck, but does the job nicely)...

Global Win FOP32-1 is a nice alternative...Runs a little hotter than the Alpha, but costs about 2/3 of the price...

There are others...

Good Luck:)

P.S. You're right, from what I've read, the Gorb sucks:)

I know this maybe a stupid question to ask, but did you use the include thermal pad or separate application of thermal paste/compound for your Golden Orb?

If you've already done that, then yes Alpha PAL6035 with Delta fan will have the best performance.

when you say talk about the thermal pad... you mean that grey thing that goes ontop of the core right? The thing that has that plastic tape you need to peel off?

I have that... the thing is that i used the conductive paste as well... did I kinda overkill it?

The Delta Fan?

The only fans i've heard of are the YS and the Sunon fans... where can I get an alpha with the fan you are talking about?

I placed an order for the Alpha unit that most of you guys havebeen recommending with the YS fan... but I can cancel it if you tell me where to get the unit with the fan you are talking about.

xyyz, you should definitely use only the thermal paste for your Golden Orb. Having that pad and paste together is probably what made your processor run hot. Scractch the pad off and give your Golden Orb another try with only the paste that you have.

Those Delta 38CFM fans can be found at: http://www.2cooltek.com and http://millisec.com/
These fans are loud and expensive, but they sure are the fastest CPU fans you can find...

I wouldn't recommend Y.S. Tech fans because it is no longer the best value (CFM rating) for the money anymore. That's just my opinion though.
