Anyone know? or where to get it? :) i want t quiet down some fans, and 7 volt trick is too permanent. having variable speeds at a touch seems dreamy :)

My brother just got a Zalman fan bus. Seems great so far, 4 dials and 2 switches for 12v/5v/off plus rpm monitoring for the 4 dials. also has blue lights that vary intensity with fan speed. Looks well built and nice, so I'd say I like it :)

hm sunbeam looks kinda neat, its price is right. i'm pretty sure i've seen vantecs at frys, but they cost more.

ah choices choices. aluminum case of sunbeam is nice, lighting of vantec is nicer.

"From the off position, each of the knobs turns on with a satisfying tactile click. The super bright LED lights up bright red. As you turn up the speed of each device, the corresponding LED changes from red to blue, indicating the relative voltage."

It seems to be saying that they light up when switched on?

After reading this review, I ordered the Nexus NXP-201.
I like how a harddrive has room behind the controller since the fan connectors are mounted vertically vs horizontally as on the Sunbeam.
Since the Nexus controls the voltages from 7-12v, I think it should handle starting the fans every time. The Sunbeam goes from 0-12v, so might cause trouble with some high wattage fans starting at 0 volts?
The Sunbeam does support up to 20watts vs the Nexus at 18watts, but I didn't want to have to relocate one of my drives sitting in the bay the controller is going in.

I also like how the Nexus, "Everything you need to get the fan controller up in running is included."

I've got the Sunbeam rheobus and yes, they light up when it's on. Red for low power, blue for high power. And yes, they are bright but it doesn't bug me since I don't sleep in the same room as the comps.

I've heard that the nexus isn't very good, something about catching fire I read once... :Q no joke, they don't sound like great quality.

Vantec Nexus NXP-201...mmmmm....smells like Bacon...or maybe fried components. :Q
There's lots of first hand accounts in that thread as well as some links to similar experiences. Another vote for the Sunbeam Rheo (I'm using the tailed version w/ no decals); the only negative is the LEDs. If you look at them head on, you'll be seeing dots for days. Its not bad though if your front bezel is angled towards or away from you, but at night it looks like you've always got a black light on from outside. :)

its nice quality, the knobs are very smooth and turn nicely.. it lights up well, and it looks slick too.... i like it!

wow! i had no idea they were that unreliable, its a shame, their lighting is nice:(. maybe its the heatsinkless design? i dunno. i just wonder if i'll be able to mount a harddrive behind the longer sunbeam. other icky bit about the sunbeam, havin to cut my fan wires:(

another iffy bit, one won't be for me, but a technically inept sibling who lives in a dorm. i don't want them to accidentally set it so the fan doesn't start:(

eep more read that thread on vantec the more scared i get:)

ah well, i guess i save 7 dollars with sunbeam.
