We're using Verizon right now with 5 people. What's the best family plan out there? We don't need that many minutes, we usually spend less than 500 minutes all together. We'd like new phones also. My parents are convinced that Sprint has poor reception though I don't know if it's true or not. What are some good plans out there?

Using the 500-min plan from Verizon for 4-people. Haven't had any problems with their reception... Sprint was fricken horrible - but that was 3 years ago - I haven't looked back.

I compared with the Cingular family plan and it was pretty comparable. If you're satisfied with Verizon's service, I'd stay.

you might wanna re-up to the 750 minute plan. We had the 500 minute plan, but when we wanted to add my dad, found that the 500 minute plan wasn't even advertised anymore (doesn't exist for new customers, essentially). The new plan, however, cost the same for 4 people as it did for 3 people. And more minutes. :)

Verizon is single handedly the best for family plans I'd say. Great features-to-cost, and great service. :)

Is there anyway to get 5 free new phones by renewing with Verizon? We all have crappy old phones.

well they have the new-every-2 [years] deal where they have free phones you can choose from (free after that discount). You should be able to log into the site with each phone number and "upgrade" to see what you're eligible for.

thx for the info, I'm on a company-discounted plan so I'll have to re-check the site once I log in on VPN tomorrow.

NE2 is only applicable to the primary line. It's a $100 discount, plus any MIRs. The discount takes off up to $100 to get the phone down to $50 Eligible secondary lines get new-customer pricing (2 or 1yr pricing with any MIRs)

The current FSP pricing/tiers is 700m for 69.99 for the first two lines and 9.99 for each addition line after the first two. The 500 FSP (59.99 two lines, 9.99 addl line) is an HDNO save offer. It's not gonna be offered to new customers, only existing customers who are threatening to cancel due to price, or need less minutes.

Aurareturn, call customer service and ask what your upgrade dates are. I can tell you right now, you're not likely to get 5 free phones (what is the fascination with free phones anyway? They're junk, you get what you pay for, pay some decent money for phones, and end up with equipment that's going to last you the life of your contract). You'll get maybe 3 for free (1 NE2 phone, 3 phones on "BOG3" offer) and one phone you're gonna have to pay the 2 year contract on.

^ perhaps it's because I'm on a B2B plan that we got to NE2 on our non-primary phones... I picked up the RAZR V3 for my mom for free after entering with her # on the upgrade page. I checked for my brother & wife and they are eligible for free phones including that one too. The KRAZR was $49.99 at one point. I assumed that since the upgrade page was there for regular customers too, all numbers could see their NE2 discount.

At any rate, I just wanted to say that these RAZRs will likely last the length of the contract (nice free phone).
