Best factory nav?

Why is it that my shitty 80 dollar black friday special mio GPS from 4 years ago has a more polished interface than most factory GPS systems?

I've noticed the Honda/Acura systems are pretty worthless as well, its just a little black line with a read arrow on it. My GPS has different colors for types of roads, highlights, etc.

The VW nav has a google-maps esque look which is getting there, but still not up to snuff as a garmin or such is.

Are all OEM navs like this?

I thought the Acura NAV system was supposed to be one of the best. Lexus is also reportedly very good but I have very limited experience with it...our Lexus doesn't have NAV.

My 06 TL's NAV was quite good I thought. My 07 RDX's NAV...not so much. 🙁

I don't know what Honda/Acura systems you've seen but they must be old or set up wrong. My 2005 RL had a pretty good system. Nothing like what you describe.

If you buy a 3rd party GPS like a Mio, you can install all kinds of aftermarket software and maps on it that keep it up to date with things like 3D Lane view, road sign views, etc. A factory system needs to be updated through OEM DVDs, which cost $50-200 a piece.

That's one of the reasons to buy an aftermarket unit instead of getting one with the vehicle.

The Acura is a 2008 TL, the voice control is neat, but graphically and functionally it seems like its incredibly outdated. A $200 garmin has much better function and appearance.
