Friend wants to get one for her husband, she wants the best one for him heh. Of course, price can't be ridiculous like $250.

So I'm looking on MWAVE, since Newegg only has one, and it's out of stock.

She's got a Dell Inspiron 4000, which I believe is not USB 2.0. Will there be a problem running a USB 2.0 burner on a Non-2.0 port? Would she be better off purchasing a PCMCIA firewire card and getting a Firewire burner?

Thanks!

CDRW max @ on USB 1.0 @ appx 4X's. The best IMO would be the Plextor...I use an external USB2.0/Firewire 5 1/4 case and put HD's or CDRW in it.

It is backwards compatiable but it would be even slower if it was hooked up this way. I would buy a firewire burner because of this.

get a usb2.0 card and a usb2.0 drive, or a firewire card and a firewire drive.

there is no best, most are usually just 5.25" drives in an enclosure.
