I know most of the guys here just use external enclosures, but is any one brand better than all the rest?

I'm looking for one myself for my new powerMAC and have had a few friends inquire about them as well.

With internal drives it was always Seagate, no questions about it, but they are new to the external market.

I am thinking Western Digital. Or maybe even the new Seagates. Needs to be at a good price though. Any thoughts?

That isn't an external hard drive. That is an internal hard drive in an external enclosure ;)

Yes it might be as good and probably better option for the computer savvy, but that is not who I am selling these to. And even I do not want to waste the time to have to buy two parts when I could just buy one.

I think I am just going to go with LaCie. They are cheap, look good and seem to be reliable enough.

The only difference being that one comes pre-done, and the other you do yourself?

Yes that is a very big difference. The warranty being the first issue. Time being the second. Resellability being the third.

You don't lose your hd's warranty when you drop it into an enclosure, nor do you lose your enclosure's warranty when you drop an hd into it... that would just suck.

Does LaCie have something comparable to Seagates 5yr warranty? It takes very little time to install a drive into an enclosure.
