best external dvd dual layer burner for laptop

Do you have firewire or usb, I pretty much bought a usb/firewire enclosure and put my plextor ide in.. its a lot better than those pre made ones and if broken, you can swap out yourself.

Good luck finding an external dual-layer drive in that price range.

You could spend $50 on an external enclosure and then $75 on a good dual-layer burner, like Carbonadium4 was saying. That's definitely your best option.

The enclosure are usually usb or firewire , or you can buy the combo, just plug the drive into the box, the box has usb port to your pc, like an usb printer and you're set..

Here are two for you to consider. I haven't bought either but I'm considering one of these two as well.

Lite-on $139

Plextor $169 AR

Anyone own one of these? Comments?

The Lite-on looks like a winner if you're trying to save space (def better than buying an enclosure and a separate internal drive), but for $30 more you get a faster drive from Plextor.
