Best Explorer.exe Alternative (Desktop)

What is the best alternative to Windows 2000 Pro's default explorer desktop? I have looked at DesktopX and Talisman. Which is more stable and takes up less resources under Win2k?

I use Power Desk 4 available from www.ontrack.com. Been using it for a number of years with W95, W98 & W98SE. Number of neat features including pretty sophisticated Zip handling as well as multi pane views.

I have mucked around with LiteStep and PowerDesk. I really haven't spent enough time playing with it to see if it is truly more comfortable for me than Explorer.

Hi there,
There seems to be no loss of System Resources but it is not very comfortable to use ,For Example Clicking on the Taskbar to minimise a window does not minimise it ! This is one of the important feautures !
But you can custyomise it A - Z everything so if you loooks get it !
or if you are a powe user Ditch it!

I just love Powerdesk 4.0 (I had Powerdesk 98 before). With QuickView Plus, it makes a killer combo. You can get it with Ontrack's Fix-It Utilities 2000, an excellent suite that uses little resources and includes an improved version of Trend's PC-Cillin antivirus along with a very fast defragger. 🙂

Agree with dennifloss completely. In addition easternerd, PowerDesk can be minimized by clicking on the Taskbar.

Thanks.

I believe there is a misunderstanding with what I meant for "explorer.exe." I'm talking about an alternative to the default explorer shell, not the file manager. Some of the alternatives are Litestep, NextSTEP, Talisman, and Desktopx.
