Biased I may be, but my vote goes to the Bruins under the John Wooden era. As a college team clearly they are at a disadvantage compared to professional teams as their players obviously don't stay for an extended period of time..making their accomplishments during this time that much more amazing. Here are some highlights from those Wooden years..

*four 30-0 seasons (1963-64, 1966-67, 1971-72, 1972-73)
*streak of 88 consecutive victories
*38 straight NCAA tournament victories
*19 PAC 10 championships
*149-2 record at Pauley Pavilion
*10 national championships, including seven in a row (1966-73)

I'd say the Celtics back in the day come a close second..and depending on how far we're stretching it, the De la Salle football team which went undefeated for a decade or whatever it was is certainly up there.

I'll go with the Edmonton Oilers of the 80s with Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Coffey, Fuhr (etc etc). They won 5 cups with that nucleus of players. Of course, you're asking an Oilers fan too :)

I was thinking along those lines too. Course I grew up with in a Canadiens family so I didn't learn about the Oilers until I was a little older. They had a good run in the late 70's/early 80's too, but I can't remember the particulars right now.

Since they've coem to Sacramento, the Kings haven't really gotten over the third-round bump of the playoffs yet. And since I'm biased, that'll be the only team I mention.

I don't think anyone can top UCLA and Boston in the late 60s. You'll never see that kind of dominance again in any major sport.

ucla is a strong possibility. the celtics won something like 11 championships in 13 years during bill russell's career so that works too..

as for the yankees, remember from the mid 1960s until 1976, the yankees didn't win anything...and hell, in 76 they were swept in the world series, and then they won it the next 2 years....and then from 1982 until the mid 90s they didnt win anything then either. so every team has their losing periods.

yeah, but they've won at least 1 in every decade, iirc, and they won 1 out of every 3ish over the whole period. that much dominance for that long is amazing. no other franchise in any sport can claim even half that. the fighting irish are probably the closest.

It's harder to win consistently in the pros than college

The whole Yankees history since Ruth is more often championship era than not. There are really only 2 less-than-stellar periods, already pointed out, and most teams would kill to have "droughts" that short. Just looking at Yankees '49-'64, I count 14 of 16 pennants and 9 World Series.

Celtics' 8 straight titles is up there too.

Real Madrid, from the time it was formed to present.

Oh yeah, and the Brazilian National Football team (soccer to you US folks). They're just amazing...even though Pele's lost his mind.
