I was just thinking of ways to spend my income tax return money when it dawned on my I have a slick TV and dvd player now all I need is a good stereo.

Here is what I want. 5.1 or better surround sound. Must have DTS anything else is bonus

Basically an entry level system

I would say a price range of under $500

All I need is the receiver and speakers

If you're lucky, maybe find a set of Energy Take 5's? Dunno what else, since I personally will be shopping in a similar range after this school year. Good luck, I'm sure viperoni or someone'll have a good suggestion. :)

What's the one by Kenwood that everyone posting at that review site loves?

(Could I be any more vague?)

Kenwood apparently makes a good HT in a box in that price range.

Yea $500 maybe less

I didn't make a fortune last year

It will probably turn out to be an out of the box rig from Best Buy but I'll be proud of it

The Kenwood HTB-503 is what you seek. It's a great buy for $500.

JBP NSP-1 5 Speakers set from buy,com for $230 + free shipping right now!
For a receiver, I would go with the Kenwood VR-507
If you can get a subwoofer too, Sony SA-WM40 maybe, good luck
