I'm not a gamer, audiophile or hardcore MP3 fiend. Not really looking for top of the line or badass setup.

Just a decent pair of speakers, something small with good sound.

What do you think of the Altec Lansing 2100 for $29.99?

USB powered speakers would be GREAT.

Recommendations?

I was about to come in here and say Logitech Z640, until I saw the "not a gamer" part - hence you don't need 5.1 :p

I have no clue about those Altec Lansing speakers, but I'd imagine the Z340's (or whatever their replacement is) are good. Don't know about any USB powered speakers though.

Hmm...

Logitech's offerings usually deliver a pretty good price/performance ratio...

Perhaps this

The Altec Lansings are decent. You might also want to look at the Creative Inspire 2.1 system model T3000.

Hot deal thread in disguise, you sly devil you. :)

Pretty much any 2.1 set will cover you if you're not a hardcore gamer or MP3 audiophile. I'm a whore for Logitech, but Altec Lansings are also quality speakers.

See if you can find a pair of used Planar Media 14s if you're more into music. A year ago I got mine for ~$80 shipped from the fs/t forum and they are fantastic, if you're lucky you might find them for $50.

I'd have to say Labtec Pulse 424, I got them for about 30 bucks.. they are BADASS for the price. I actually prefer them over my Z-640s
