Best engine oil?

Just use the generic stuff you buy at any autoshop and get a good filter. If you change your oil faithfully you'll have no trouble and won't notice a difference between $1.50 per quart or $.75 per quart. <-- Just my opinion is all

I use redline synthetic 15w50 "race oil". I can get it for $3.00 a quart. Just about everyone I know runs Redline or Mobil 1.

Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Valvoline make the best synthetics -- just my $0.02

IMO, synthetics may not be miracle juice, but they are money well spent.

Go to maxima.org, they have a lot of oil test results to back their recommendation of synthetic Mobil 1 or AMSoil.

As for the interval, I think it is best to do 5000 filter change and 10,000 syn oil change.

For dino oil, I think Castrol GTX is pretty good for high mileage car, if syn oil is not desired.

Careful with the "racing" oils. They're usually formulated with a very weak detergency package because they are designed to be changed very often(ie: after every race).

I know that ferrari uses 15w-50 Mobil 1 on their GTS class ALMS cars (the 360 modena to be more specific)... I don't think that mobil 15w-50 is a "race" oil, but rather a specially formualted 15w-50 synthetic.

No, it's not. I was just referring to the redline "racing" oil.

Racing oils are usually formulated quite different from passenger car oils, they don't have the high detergency and TBN numbers that are needed for daily driving and a long service.
