Going to the library soon. Need a list. I also like thrillers/mysteries, so those recommendations are welcome as well.

Stephen King's 'The Stand' is about the end of the world... I remember quite enjoying it, but it was a long time ago I read it.

On the Beach
Lucifer's Hammer
If you're open to comic books/Graphic Novels, check out "The Walking Dead" by Robert Kirkman. Libraries DO carry graphic novels, so they might have it.
It did nothing for me, personally, but some people liked "World War Z: An Oral Tale of the Zombie War" This is really a war book by a guy who takes way way WAY too much time trying to figure out how zombies would work in real life. Well, it's not actually the end of the world, but things get pretty hosed up by the end of the war.

I'll second this.

It's more about a virus that wipes out most of the world though, but a very good (but long) read.

The Stand sucks. Idiotic ending.

The Road is good... it actually got onto Oprah's Bookclub list (and made me ball like a baby at the endt.

Alas, Babylon.

Lucifer's Hammer.

On the Beach.

Children of Men... both the book and movie.

Another movie is Threads.

Swan Song is a good end-of-the-world book with nuclear war as the catalyst. As others have mentioned, Lucifer's Hammer is a great one with a comet as the destructive force.

Also, if you enjoy a 'fun' read (almost comic book like), 'I am Legend' is good.

Its by Robert R. McCammon btw. Its kind of like The Stand only without King's blah blah blah blah.

Dark Advent by Brian Hodges
Mister Touch by Malcolm Bosse
Think all the other decent ones I've read have been mentioned already.

Got some end by zombie ones if you like those :)
The Rising and City of the Dead by Brian Keene
Autumn Series by David Moody First book is free
Two of the better of those type I have read.

Never heard of those. But 'I Am Legend' is a zombie one. Very good read. Read the reviews on Amazon for an idea of what it's like. It's not a serious read, just a very fun read.

OP, I have written an end of the world story by myself. People have told me that it was quite a good one. I can email it to you if you like!

"The Book of the New Sun", by Gene Wolfe, although the apocalypse doesn't happen until the fifth volume, "The Urth of the New Sun".

Wolfe is the best writer of fiction living today, bar none.

Have you ever read Revelations? One of the coolest things I have read. Makes you wonder what kind of guy this God really is. (Atheist by the way)

World War Z is a very fun read
