Best Economic Laptop

I build desktops but don't know much about laptops. Some friends want to get a laptop for the family business. Cost is the main factor. I thnk word processing is the only application to be used.

Any suggestions for old, new, or refurbished laptops?

Thanks in advance,

FC

get an old used thinkpad or something, you should get a decent ~800mhz PIII with 256ram and win2k for less than $450, and those things are built like rocks, they shouldn't break.

If you are looking for new, then go to http://www.notebookforums.com/ and sign up, and keep a lookout for any dell $750 off coupons. When one comes up (which happens every week or two), just use it to get a nice $1500 system of your choice for $750.

IBM sells Certified Used Thinkpads, ranging from ~700MHz P3's up to T42's. I think the deals there start around $500 with 1 month warranty, optional 12 months. Great deals IMO

In terms of new, check out Averatec. They have several models for sale around $800 and are great machines. Also retail stores run $500 specials on basic notebooks, mainly Toshibas; these are after mail-in rebates of course.

edit: IBM Certified Used
