best easy mods for xbox

I am not ready to go for the 360-need a new tv first, but I would like to mod my current xbox.
Frys has some killer deals on ide 300gig 16mb hard drives, I could load all my games on it and have mp3 playback ability too.
Can I just add this new mod chip and the hard drive and call it good? I am sure you have to load some software on it first, is it best to load it from your pc first and then intsall?
I have read that some people do not like the software format that comes with this mod chip, what software format is the best one to get?

Any advice welcome.

Install the chip. You'll be able to boot into the BIOS of the chip and run applications off CD from which you can install a new dashboard. Try xbox-scene.com for more help.
 
You don't even need a mod chip. You can mod your xbox via a software exploit with games like Mechassault and Splinter Cell. Google for it and you'll find a tutorial. It's cheaper than buying a mod chip.

Definitely save some money and do it this way. I modded my Xbox with a modchip, but that was before I knew you could play burnt backups using a softmod. Softmod packages now even come with a script to turn off the softmod when you want to go on Xbox Live.

I actually just recently modded my girlfriends Xbox using a softmod and it was done in a matter of minutes. I used the Xbox-HQ auto-installer package. If you need any help check out Xbox-Scene.

I have the Xenuim SP ICE and it is a fantastic modchip. It was easy to install, has a great onboard OS, etc., but I would definitely consider just doing a softmod.
 
if you play online and microsoft checks for mods they can permanently disable your XBOX...I had heard that a guy had hacked the XBOX, but I also heard that if you connect your XBOX to the internet then it will automatically download a patch which disables the work around which the guy found. So really if you want online multiplayer then you can only use legal XBOX games.


I know alot of people who messedwith there XBOX and microsoft burned them.

BTW I believe all this is in the User agreement.
 
If you use Krayzie's Ndure installer it softmods your xbox so that when you turn it on using the power button, it is a virgin (microsoft cannot see your mods at all). With the eject button, it boots to an alternative dash.

Live works perfectly with it; it uses all sorts of fancy techniques and MS cannot detect it. Of course you can't play backups on live because they will not boot in the unmodded state.

All you have to do it solder up an xbox usb cable, which takes like 4 minutes. Come to think of it solder isnt even neccesary, you can twist the wires together. lol.

Simple questions:
do I do everything through the xbox or do I do some things online on my pc first.
I read the tutorial and it said to log into a ftp through a irc (I neve did that before but I just tried and could not get the command prompt correct).
Also do I format the hard drive first on my pc in FAT format?
Off to frys to buy that memory card.

You don't need the memory card - you can use the XboxHDM toolset to unlock the drive directly in your PC, and then apply the softmod right there.

However, having the memory card and a copy of Splinter Cell/Mechassault turns you into a "Dr. Mod" who can make house calls. Your buddy wants his Xbox to be "mad leet" like yours? A six-pack of beer and fifteen minutes later ... 🙂

ok, this 10 minute update is on pace for 10 hours.
I have a new unformated hd im my pc, Can I just load everything on the hd and do it that way, if not then can I burn to a cd and do the bios boot cd?
Where do you download this hdmtoolset?
 
ok, I got the tool set loaded to the new hd. I can run the utilities on the new hd. I cannot get the new hd to work in the xbox. I think I am missing the eprom code I have to load onto the new hd?
I put the old hd back into the xbox and it works fine, but I cannot get the new one to work.

On mad goukis tutorial he says to: " Now you will need to put the memory card in your Xbox controller, boot the Xbox without a CD in the drive, and go to the menu where it shows game saves
When it asks wether you want to use the Xbox hard drive or the memory card, pick the memory card.

Now scroll down to the Mechassault or 007 Agent Under Fire save (whichever youre using) and press right so it picks the save file, now press the green A button...

Now, you want to pick copy. and copy it to the hard drive.

Now put in whichever game you decided to use... and go to the load menu and load the save off the hard drive you just put on there.
The screen should go black... the Xbox light blinks ... and then you see this.....yes... glorious evox!"
On step 4 when I put my 007cd in & then load it from the hd, the game starts up normally.

 
Once the game starts normally, go to the games load menu and load the saved game you just copied to your hard drive in the previous step. 😉

OOOOPS, just re-read your post, are you using the "hacked" game save?
Sounds like you are using a "normal" saved game.

Are you doing THIS step?

 
yes, I am doing a normal game save, I clicked on the first link in his article for files you will need and it just goes to some search page.
I do have the action replay so I can load something from my pc, but I do not see where to download a hacked game save.
 
I use a memory card to load the save game to the xbox hdd, then load the saved game.

So your method using action replay would be different.

Check your PM's. 😉
 
well after hours and hours of trying this, i found a forum that said you have to have a certain version of mech assault or 007, I have the wrong game for both. I will try to rent one tonight.
