best e-ink reader for epubs - kindle or nook

gonna try to make the move to digital, but im fairly sure for now i need to stick with e-ink.

There are so many choices for such a simple product, even within the same name (kindle and nook) so i just need something basic i guess. Ive heard the touch got bad reviews.

Really i just need epub and maybe pdf support. Android based would be nice, but doesnt really matter. I'd like about 7 inches, and the best quality of e-ink possible.
 
I have a Kindle Touch, got it primarily for the Kindle Special Offers, after reading the reviews, seems like the nook simple touch is a better device, and more comfortable to hold, and you hold a reader a lot... (I discounted that in reading the reviews and shouldn't have) and the Kindle Special Offers aren't much, seem to be all local deals for me, and I don't want a 1/2 off Yoga class... 🙁

I've heard the same thing about the kindle touch. How it feels in the hand is very important to me. I think im leaning towards the nook for the epub support. How does the original nook compare to the nook simple touch? I dont really want to spend much, so if i can find a used/refurb original nook and get it for like 40-50 bucks ill do that. If not i guess ill end up getting the simple touch.

I got the latest Nook Simple.

The latest Nook and Kindle both uses the same E-Ink technology. The differences are in the file format support and the fringe benefits each of them has.

Kindle I think allow you to check out 1 book in the best seller once a month. Which is pretty cool.

Nook supports epub format, in which are the preferred format of free books. And I believe if you use the Nook in b&n store, they give you a free book too.

Both are 6 inches display and I think kindle dx is the only one that's at 9.7 inches.

If you are thinking of getting a Nook, I would recommend the Nook simple instead of the original Nook. I have both, and the Nook simple is a lot more intuitive and easier to use than the original.

as an owner of both I can say the nook touch is much better than the original. It's lighter and more comfortable to use. And it doesn't have the annoying lcd screen at the bottom.
 
nook simple touch. i have a $25 off nook simple touch coupon if you are looking to buy one. it'll bring it down to $75

just to clarify, i have a nook simple touch. the screen only refreshes every 5 pages, lasts about 3 weeks reading 1.5 hrs per day, and can be hacked to become more of an android tablet (i havent done this yet).

it supports pdf and epub but not .mobi formats. you'll have to convert it. everything is drag-and-drop, just download your book and move it to your nook via usb.

i use it without a case and it feels fantastic in my hand. its a bit wider than a kindle, but it feels a lot better in the hand because of the rubber back and the groove in the back allows you to grip it easily in one hand.

This and this. If you want epub, you're not going to get a Kindle. Amz files are DRM'd up and can' be easily converted. You could get a tablet, then use both Kindle and Nook apps for that content, and whatever reader app you wish for epubs though you're not going to get e-ink this way.

Even though I disagree with B&N's anti-consumer decisions with the Nook Tablet, their Nook devices and store are far superior Amazon. I've definitely noticed the Nook Store has a FAR better selection of magazines than Amazon's Kindle Store.

Why convert when you can just buy a Nook and you know... NOT have to convert everything?

I have the Nook Touch OP and I think it'd be good for you for an e-ink reader. It's pretty cheap and works great.
