BEST DVD Writer?

Your question is subjective. Try cdrinfo.com to find the dvd writers that fit your liking.

EDIT:
I have the Benq 1600A because they use Sanyo chipset. Which Plextor also uses.

I'm a Lite-on fan myself, but there's a few good brands to pick from: Plextor, Pioneer, NEC, and Lite-on to name a few.

I like my Pioneer 107D. (oem A07)
It's the quietest optical drive I have ever purchased. (and I have used quite a few)

I have NEC, NuTech, and Toshiba's 8x dvd burners, and all have their strengths and weaknesses. The NEC is the most reliable, the NuTech is the fastest, and the Toshiba does EFM encoding and copies every copy protected disc out there. All takes a lot of research to get media that burn at 8x. All are fairly reliable in writing, but IMO the NEC is best with most media. NuTech is very picky about media, and its near impossible to get media that burns at 8x on the Toshiba, but at 4x its very accurate in its writes.

Decide what you want most in your burner, then go to cdrinfo.com and pick the one that suits your needs.

Another vote for Lite-On. I have owned Plextors in the past & decided to try one of these for $86 bucks its hard to beat....good drive! (dual layer also)

get a plextor my old 8x cd burner (lol i paid like 250 bucks at the time) was a tank i maybe made like 10 coasters out of tons of copies. I have a 8x dvd burner and its held up just as my old cd burner.

They announced the Plextor PX-716A today. I was just going to get the Pioneer 16x but now I'll probably wait until reviews of the new Plextor come out.

You cant even buy 12x media most places, let alone 16x, so i dunno why it would be that much better over the 712a unless it has dual layer support.

I am in the same boat. I need to upgrade from my old 4x....but it has been a good one.

The Nec shows the best test check for error on the different review sites.
VERY reliable writes

but can the nec get 8x media to burn 12x, if so what media.
right now I just want the best (most reliable) with the 3 sec difference in speeds coming in at
a very distant second.

I guess if price is the same I will go with the nec.

Opinions and flames are very welcome 🙂

I have a Plex px-712sa,( sata), that I am enjoying the heck out of, tho IMHO it would make more sense to wait for the Plex 16x, or 1 of the other 16x drives right now, as they are dual layer, of which the existing 8x to 12x are not, at least the 1's I have read up on.
