IMO you're better off buying separate components; if one fails, you don't need to replace both.

I have a JVC model that has performed flawlessly for the past 2 years. I think it cost about $120 new, but you can buy a similar model for much less than that now.

Another idea is to buy a combo VHS, DVD-recorder, that way you can transfer your VHS tapes to DVD and eventually ditch the VHS altogether![]()

I'll put in a vote for recorder also.
Converting from DV or VHS to DVD is done quickly & easily.
Only downside I see is that BlueRay/HDDVD player may be another purchase made sooner than later. (but who really knows)
IIRC, Costco has a combo regular unit for sub$100 and a recorder version for sub$200.
If the extra $100 ain't a big deal to you, go for the recorder despite where we end up w/ BlueRay/HDDVD........OTOH, if that part bothers you, just go with the regular version.

Yes.
And a couple things to remember about Costco........
#1.) Typically they only sell good stuff........(yes, there are exceptions, but these are far & few in between)
#2.) You're backed by quite possibly the best warranty in the whole world.
I just looked at the model number on my combo unit I posted about earlier. It's the HR-XVC30U.Originally posted by: MotionMan
In any event, any specific models that people have been happy with?
