Best dvd software?

Anyone care to recommend some dvd software? I am new to dvd on computers and have been using powerdvd 3.0 which gives me some blocky pictures at times.

If you have an ATi video card then the ATi DVD player gives the best results. Otherwise PowerDVD is good.

I have a gf2 gts which I have heard accelerates mpeg decoding. I am currently using power dvd (which works really well in my opinion) to play dvds. Is power dvd taking advantage of the hardware acceleration?

dvd is brand new... was sealed in the shrinkwrap.. my computer is a thunderbird 1.55 ghz, geforce 3 video, 512 meg ddr ram so that certainly isn't the problem... do you know of any way to make the sound louder in dvds? I use headphones plugged in directly to my sound card and I can't get it very loud. The sound is turned up all the way in windows and in the program but it's not loud like it is when I play games..

uninstall powerdvd.

reinstall it.

most newer soundcards do not have amplified output. this means it's not loud at all. this is because so many ppl use powered speakers. ppl who look to headphones often buy speakers with headphone output which is amplified.

gf2 gts does not have hardware decoding capabilities at all, they have what's called "assist" which pretty much nothing.

What software did you get with you DVD player? Most players come with a software player on the driver CD.

I use a Hardware card from Creative (Creative DVD Decoder) It cost $70 and I have NOOOOO Problems. It has a bunch of features too. Most of them I don't use, but the Hardware playback works great.

like Workin's said if you had ATi video card then go with ATi software otherwise I would suggest you to get WinDVD. It gives better result.
