Best DVD/RW Drive Under $60

I am looking for a decent, fast, reliable DVD Drive for my new gaming rig.

It needs to be under $60

I will do some DVD Burning...movies, back-up stuff, but not a real lot.

It will be used primarily for gaming, installing and reading games... need something FAST and that isnt too picky about scratches..hehe.

I had originally decided on the BenQ 1640, but, it seems to be out of stock at my 2 first choices of retailers.. zzf, egg. And Im not sure if its the best choice for gaming..

Any other good choices in this price range... NEC 3550A etc..

THANKS

EDIT...Needs to be black.

If your limit is $60 I would get a burner and a reader. The NEC drive is a great burner for $40, but as most burners will only be an average to poor reader/ripper. I ended up pairing it with an Asus (ep616 something or other) reader for about $25 after reading some reviews.

The Plextor 740a

I have this exact drive. This is a very fast, and quiet drive. Of course, its manufactured by one of the best, Plextor.
The bezel is smooth, and flat and appeals to black cases nicely. The drive is also a little shorter than other drives, which could be a plus if you have a cramped case..

Anything NEC. They've consistently had the best rated drives from AT, and are very decently priced.

No.. I just think NEC is along the lines of "fanboyism" such as AMD, and Nvidia on the forums....

Don't get me wrong.. NEC drives are great drives.. but seriously.. there is nothing spectactular to write home about in reference to their performance....

The BenQ1640 and The Plextor 740a are 1 of the same...I like the lastest Pioneer's or LG's as they do DVDRAM and have the same chipset as the NEC...

It's not about spectacular performance its about being one of the better performers and being one of the lowest cost drives out there.

I have a question for any of you who knows the difference. I looked at cdrinfo.com which had a review of the NEC ND3520 and the newer NEC drives. Anyway, my NEC ND3520 had 5 stars for writing and now the newer models "only" have 4 stars for writing. Is that because cdrinfo has raised their standards or is it because the newer drives are not as good at writing? I was thinking of selling my machine but it almost makes me want to keep my drive for my next machine.

Pretty much.

Same chipset.

BenQ makes tons of products, many of them for other companies.

And yes, my vote goes to the BenQ DW1640 also.
