Best dvd-rw drive to read burned dvd-r's ??

I need a GREAT dvd-rw drive that can actually read dvd-rs. I never again want to own a NEC dvd-rw drive again. This one absolutely blows. I am thinking possibly the newest Pioneer dvd burner....any other suggestions. I really want the best overall dvd-rw drive I can get but I want one that is especially good at reading dvd-r discs.

I would have thought that most newer DVD burners would read all of the formats (+/-R,+/-RW) without problems. Does the drive actually give read errors, or is the performance just less than satisfactory?

I have the Pioneer DVR108 and never had any problems with it. There is a newer version (DVR 109) out now.

I 2nd that opinion. Only get DVR109 if you are burning DVD-DL, otherwise, just get 108/A08.

You are correct it sucks at reading dvd-r or even disc that have errors on it, not scratch just errors that should be correctable. I believe it doesn't correct any errors and isntead just give you redunbancy and stops reading
No problem with liteon burners
No problem with optorite burners either
hmm, its not that great i guess even thought many people say it's good
NEC is just average but maybe even subpar but most seem to praise it like the best thing since slice banana 🙂

The DVR-109 is a great drive. I haven't had a single problem. I haven't even burnt a coaster with this baby.

Firerock said to only get it if your going to be burning DVD-DL's. But it's only a few dollars more than the DVR-108, and burns DVD+DL's at twice the speed. I wouldnt upgrade the DVR-109 if I already had the DVR-108, but if your buying new, I'd go with the DVR-109.

Also, the DVR-A09 is the same drive, it's just got a big software bundle, but it's not really worth the extra, considering the great value of the DVR-109.

And with Ritek 8x DVD-R's It burns at 12x ALL THE TIME! I get the labled version because your guaranteed the same 8x in the bundle, not like the silver or whitle lables.

My DVR108 is rock solid. Heck, my DVR105 is rock solid and for sale if you want it.
