Looking for the best dvd player I can find for my HDTV. I have no clue how much I should spend, and what to get. Or even if I should get one, will they come out with a new dvd technologie in six months...?

Suggestions please!

Edit: My tv has a DVI connection.

Thats what I'm using right now. But I'd like to get a standalone dvd player to keep things simple.

When i bought my Panasonic 30WX54 30" Widescreen HDTV a little over a month ago i was faced with the same situation. I only had a non-progressive scan dvd player, and needed to upgrade.

The general concensus was that any decent progressive scan dvd player will do, as an upconverting model really dosent help on CRT's.

I needed a sound system as well, so i ended up buying the Sony DAV-FR1 from mysony for $345ish and now have my home theater complete. Its a full 5.1 system with a built in progressive scan 5-disc dvd changer/sacd player. I love it :D

Well, you can't go wrong with the Linn Unidisk SC. But it must cost at least a few thousand dollars.
