Best DVD Drive

What is the current best or ideal DVD drive.
In the past I heard Tosiba and Pioneer were good, but recently I heard AOpen have good DVD's.

In terms of DAE speed, DVD Playback, and Noise Level of the drive, do these companies rate.

Secondly I was looking at the Toshiba 16x vs Aopen 12x at Newegg which would you guys recommend?

I have the aopen DVD Rom. It's a rebadged Pioneer 105 model. I can't tell about the noise, as my Fop38 drowns it out. I imagine its just as loud as the pioneer.

The toshiba suffers from poor ripping speeds on some models. That's discussed further in other posts here in GH

The Pioneer are considered to be some of the best DVD drives available. I didn't know they were letting any one (Aopen) rebadge them because the slot designs are very distinctive and I thought Pioneer was the only one doing it. Maybe the just let Aopen rebadge the tray designs. I purchased an Aopen recently for a client from Newegg and it works very well. No complaints at all.

I've heard that the Pioneer slot ones (Model 105S) has a newer model out (Model 106S). Supposedly, this one comes with a bit of fixed problems, quieter spin noise, and supports ATA66.

How I envy that model... I'm stuck with my crappy 105S 😛

Get the Pioneer 106s. You'll love that drive, seriously!

I never had a problem with my 106s's sound. Even though I do have an Alpha PAL6035 HSF w/Black Label Delta Fan.

I think just the Tray load pioneer Tray loads lack digital out..Oh and there's nothing like sweet ass slot load, man i could just spend hours putting in and pulling out my cd's..
i have the 105s btw and it's generally not that loud and it can read any crap cd media i throw at it

I have the 12x Tray AOpen. It has Digital out & apparently supports DVD-R/RW discs !!

anyone buying a Pioneer DVD-r ???

Aopens are rebadged pioneers, and I have only seen them in tray so far so the slot may be left exclusively to the pioneer...

go to www.storagereview.com for a run down of the 106 versus the older 105 and the toshibas...very good article....

S0me1X, where is it for 54.00 dollars? Is that shipped as well? This isn't the 105 by chance is it?
