best DVD burning/encoding software?

i hape a HP 4x dvd+rw burner and the software it came with is too damn slow encoding my files to burn. what can i do? i have a lot of .avi and .mpg files that i want to burn onto a dvd.....

what is the best software to use?
 
I just got Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD 7.0, i'm experimenting with it at the moment and I like the results i'm getting. It's not the fastest software but its pretty easy to use.
