Which DVD burner is fastest and most compatible, as well as supporting DVD RAM and R and RW(RW not neccessary)? Any info on any drives in the near future appreciated. It also needs to burn CDR and RW airly fast, preferably 24X CD-R and 10-12x CDRW. Thanx

Out of all the reviews I have come across, the Pioneer A04 retail / 104 oem drive stands out in the crowd. It seems to produce the most compatible movie burns w/ set top players.

DVD-RAM support with DVD-R? That would be the Panasonic LF-D311. 1X DVD-R only and no CD burning. (I have this drive and it works well with both DVD-RAM and DVD-R.)

Fastest? That would be the DVD+RW/+R drives, at 2.4X for both DVD+R and DVD+RW, but no DVD-RW or DVD-RAM.

Fastest DVD-R? That would be the Pioneer DVR-104 at 2X DVD-R. 1X DVD-RW only and no DVD-RAM.

Thus, no current drive suits all of your needs. You will have to choose. Or you could wait until late fall/winter to get the newly announced Panasonic, which does DVD-RAM/DVD-RW/DVD-R/CD-RW/CD-R. (Hitachi already makes one, but it has only ever been sighted in Japan, and as a bundled drive with NEC computers.)

I believe I found a Pacific Digital that does everthing. What do you guys think of it. Check at pricegrabber. Can't get the link to work right.

You must be looking at the Panasonic LF-D311 that Pacific Digital rebadges. It's a good drive, but it certainly doesn't do everything. See my previous post.
