Best Duron for running at 1GHz???

Does the 800 clock better than the 600? Can I even get 1Ghz out of a Duron on a MSI KT7 Pro2-A board with normal cooling methods? I'm new to this overclocking thing, and I would appreciate any advice.

The 600MHz without a doubt. I've had three 800s that wouldn't go higher than 990MHz (110*9.0) no matter what.

I had a D600 that ran stable at 900MHz. I'm now running a D700 that's stable at 1.083GHz.

:( Dam! So most Durons hit a wall just between 900MHz and 1GHz. I guess I'll go with a 700 then. It's cheap and since AMD has been manufacturing them longer than any other Durons (from release date to now), there's a good chance I can get one that's stable at a GHz.

From the several systems I've built now, ranging from Duron 600's to 800's, I'd say that there is virtually no difference. It looks like AMD has such a nice yield that they don't do any binning, so you are just as apt to get a 1GHz part out of a 600 as an 800.

i have a duron 700 on a KT7-RAID and i have it running stable at 1GHz (10*100) i can ajust the FSB at all for some reason but i don't care much. You do need a lot of colling though.

i have a FOP38 in a HUGE case and 6 80mm fans and a big 120mm card coller with an output fan as well and the temp is at 41 - 42oC under load

good luck

I haven't had too much experience with durons, but from reading these boards, and having my own duron 600 machine now, i'd have to say go with the 600. More people have had higher speeds with the 600 as compared to the 700's. My 600 does 1000 easy with 10 x 100, at 1.75v. Right now though, i've hit my sweet spot with 107fsb x 9 which is 963. It's 40 less, but i'm only using 1.625v and rock solid with whatever i throw at it. I've got a fop38, and it runs at 32c while idle. My case temp is 18c. The temp is not too far off, considering when i run it at 600, with default voltage of 1.5v, it gives me the correct temp of around 27, or 28. AGH! well that's just my two cents, go with the 600!

Have had better luck with 600 & 700 rather than 800, but that's just my personal experience.

I really agree with Netopia. No matter what duron you get it's going to tbe the luck of the draw IMO and experience. There's more too it then the CPU, there's cooling also and what motherboard you use. I have seen people get as much as a 50mhz gain just by switching motherboards. Just get the right parts!
