I've read about problems people have been having with the Linksys. I've also read about problems with Freesco and it killing their DL speeds.

What I am looking for is to be able to get my netowrk on line and be able to have two people play on the same game server at the same time. Is anyone using a solution that will get me there?

yea i also havent figured out why people bought a linksys router... they are haveing alot of problems... i think you should get a cisco router if u can afford or a netgear router they are nice i dont know how they run i have a netopia R9100 and it hasnt caused me any problems... it was plug and play for me... also if you cant get it configured you call them and they will remotely access your router and configure it and back up your configuration so if any thing happens you redownload the config file and the router is back up... its a nice router if you have the money for it... other wise i think the netgear router is good
just my $.02

Maybe because 95% of people aren't gamers. Most of us bought it because it's the easiest, simplist and most efficient method to setup network access to the web. I've had zero problems with mine on a very mixed network of machines and NIC's. The inability to play games does not qualify as a "problem".

Winproxy (www.winproxy.com) is pretty good with games. It works with most of them without any special setting. It also lets you open specific ports in your firewall that may be required for certain games like Diablo II.

It does not work with all ADSL setups. It does work with BellAtlantic and most others that do PPPoE. Check their tech support to see if it will work with your ADSL provider.

While it will require that you have one PC up and running all the time, Win98 ICS will allow games to work as you wish. You can have both machines joining the same net game, have them join different games, have one host and another join it or another game...

That's all I can offer as I haven't seen anything that can do the job. Currently I have one system running win98lite with ICS. It acts as a gateway for another two and runs a Half-Life server. The two behind the gateway access games on the server or outside with no probs. Prior to this set-up I had a 2 computer network.

Hope that helps. -Resh

I have no complaints with my Linksys. Quake 2 and Quake 3 run just fine. Can't saw for the other games though since I don't play too many others.

Resh: How much added latency does it give you? Does going thru your pc that is acting as the router add much to your ping time?

I think the people having trouble with the Linksys are confused or don't know what they are doing.

It works fine for me. I have had no trouble playing online games, surfing, chatting, or anything else for that matter. The Linksys did not add anything to my ping time and it has made it very easy to add and subtract PC's from my network in addition to sharing my DSL connection with one IP (dynamically assigned by Ameritech).

akash - where did u get your Netopia R9100? The reviews read like it's a better product than the Linksys (also costs alot more). THX

just my two cents, I can run multiple computers accessing games from
either a remote server or if I start one here and join through LAN or internet fine , except the games that access through a website like
MSN gamingzone. Moto2,midtown & other MS games won't allow more than one computer to play at a time while going through the router.
The netgear rt311 is an excellent router though . I think all routers
will work the same way with the MS type of games. Of course Q3,UT,HL,Op work fine with all 5 computers at the same time.
