My E6400 is running @3Ghz. What's the best bang for the buck replacement I can just drop in to my P5B?

if u r near a microcenter get a q9550... ought to go to 3.8ghz with good cooling... or find one on fs/ft... list at ne is kind of high... i'm eol'ing my older systems with them... should be a viable platform for another couple years...

I think DBZ is a Brit IIRC, if so I doubt MicroCenter is around. But yeah, either a Q6700 or Q9550 would both be great drop-ins, so long as they don't equal the cost of an i5/board/ram, which at this point they almost certainly don't.

No guarantees, but with an average Air Cooler, 3.4-3.6ghz shouldn't be very hard with either.

True, I am a Brit.

Best price I can find for a Q6700 is £139. Not bad, but I might as well push my current chip to 3.2Ghz and leave it there. It runs unstable at 3.2 right now, but I have never done a comprehensive overclock on this, just dropped it in and upped the frequency. That and it's still only on the Intel OEM cooler.

OK, pushed my current chip to 3.2Ghz stable. Always knew it could do it. This will do for another year or so, then I'll move platform (again...).
