Best drives?

I'm putting together an PC which will be used primarily as a linux server, but I also want to install XP Media Center as a VM, and use it to stream stored video.

I was thinking of getting a large drives (1-1.5TB) in Raid 1 to store the media on - any thoughts? I'm not going to be watching video very often, but I would like it to work well. Can I use the WD green drives (I'd love to save power when I'm not using them), or are they going to be too slow? (Also, if I go with green, better to go with the newer 64MB cache and 4KB physical sector?)

The Hitachi's seem to have pretty good prices per MB too now...

FYI, I'm using an old mobo with sata 1.5, not 3.

The speed of any hard disk of that size will be much much greater than the speed needed for replaying media, including HD. Even a ripped BluRay disk is less than 10MB/second. Modern hard disks are more like 8+ times that speed

I have a 1.5tb WD green, and it's considerably faster than my older 300gb 7200rpm drives. They aren't slow, they're just not as fast as blacks.

What kind of performance do you need, exactly?

awesome...in terms of performance, I don't need anything stellar - I just wanted to make sure I could watch ripped dvs (and bluray in the future) off of the drives and they'd still look good.
