best drivers for Geforce 2?

What would be the most stable drivers for a Gefore 2 Pro/GTS AGP on WinXP?
I think I currently have 30.82 installed (driver number starts with a 6, and ends with .3082, with several #'s in between). It's showing artifacts every now and then and eventually freezes and re-boots on it's own. The msg on startup says it's the video driver. No games are played on this PC.

The newest drivers wouldn't be good for a card this old would they?

I vote 44.x, I think you'll find them in the Nvidia archives, or if you want even more choices, check guru3d.com

Oh, and LOL at the nearly decade-old card. Someone here would probably GIVE you a card that's 10x faster. For free. I have a ton of random old GF4-Ti, GF-FX, Radeon 8500/9500/9700, GF6200, 6600, 6600GT, etc just collecting dust.

Thanks. Those cards won't work on an Abit BH6 mobo though. At least, I know a GF4-Ti won't.

The only 44.x listed in the Nvidia archives is 44.03. Good one?

Just that people often say it's better to use the older drivers on an older card. Is that a myth?

tcsenter is right. Use the latest and greatest drivers that supports your GPU. And don't forget in 10 years we'll be laughing at our old 4870's and GTX 280s also! LOL!

There have been particular instances where newer drivers seem to have introduced problems with older products, but it shouldn't be the default assumption in all cases.

BTW, how did you know that was the final supporting release?

I plugged in "GeForce 2 GTS/PRO" and "Windows XP" into NVIDIA's driver finder thingy, and that was the result.

I've used a Ti4200 'golden sample' on an Abit BX6, which is even older IIRC. AGP 4X/8X cards should work on any Intel BX-based mobo AFAIK.

I tried a 4600 on mine and it wouldn't. Perhaps that was also a driver issue.

Yup, newer drivers can be just fine if not better for newer games, but worse for older games.

Well, I don't think he'll be playing anything newer than a 2002-2003 release year game on a GF2.

At least my geforce 4 MX performed better with certain older drivers many years ago. The difference was noticeable.

Perhaps it's the same with stability, but I wouldn't bet on it. It just might not function perfectly forever.

i recommend 61.77. been using it on the gf2 for a very long time now and no problems at all.

Actually the PC that the GF2 is on won't be playing any games anymore. I just want the most stable drivers possible.

The drivers 93.17 were shown as latest drivers, though I fail to see how the rel # 44.3 fit into it.....
