best disk defrag tool for win XP

What is the best defragging tool for win XP?
I have dual boot(98/xp) syatem. When I start norton antivirus or norton disk doctor or defragging utility,it does the operation on both the partitions(if I select so).Is it in anyway not recommended to carry out these operations on diffrent drives containing different OSes?

Please Answer!

Assuming your Windows XP partition is formatted in NTFS then the best disk defrag program is Diskeeper. If your drives are both formatted using FAT32 then I would use the built-in defrag tools in Windows.

I would feel comfortable running a defrag on both drives from XP, but not from 98.

Me too, if I felt comfortable using Windows 98 😉

Windows XP does optimizations when your PC is idle to assist in fast loading/booting of the OS. I would let XP do all my defragging tasks so as to minimize risk to this process (by risk I mean slowing my system down and having XP continually change things back) I also like Perfect Disk, from XP, as I think it uses the same .ini file as Windows XP does to store and handle the defrag info for fast booting.
