I have to buy a sub-$500 digital camera for my work, and was curious what you guys in ATOT think is the best all-around for the money. I don't need super features, but would rather have good quality/durability. Lemme know what you think.

I have the Kodak Easyshare DX3900, and am extremely happy with it. It's an older version, but is 3.1 megapixels and has 2 times optical zoom. The newer version (can't recall the model number) can take about 30-60 seconds of video, has some built in memory, and is even better. My sister bought it and I believe that it was <$500. It's worth looking into and is more than suitable for personal home use.

I would (did) go with the Minolta Z-1 or Fuji S5000. Both have >3mp and 10x optical zoom, they are about $300 pick up an extra 256/512mb memory card and 8-12AA nimh batteries/charger and you will be at about $400-500.

Seeing as it will be for work, I just need the one memory card, and nothing else. It will be mostly for taking pictures for hi-res catalogs, etc. so the best quality for the money is key.

Sony F717. I'm sure work can supply the Memory Stick for you :D

Battery life is AMAZING.

5MP 5x optical zoom ont he Carl Zesis lense = fantastic. Anymore and you will need very steady hands or a tripod.

I would certainly give the Olympus C-5060 Wide Zoom a look. The Sony DSC-F717 is another option.

Similar to these two are the Olympus C740 and C750. 10x zoom = :D

Battery life in the Canon G series is extremely good - when I had mine I used to forget it even HAD a battery. Really an excellent camera for the money.
