hey all,

i'm heading to college next year and will be hooking up w/ either dsl or cable. i'm looking for a good router to throw in my network mix for next year, not only for security, but to hide multiple machines behind 1 ip ;-)

right now i'm looking at the Netgear rt314, the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router ? BEFSR81, and the SohoWare Secure Cable/DSL Router ? NBG800 (all of which have a 4 port switch built in).

any reccomendations on any of these or any others? i would like to stay below $200, but i could be flexible. like i said, mainly for security and to help facilitate hosting options.

I've used the SMC. It's great, has a print server. Look for reviews and do searches, this topic has been heavily dicussed. Also, for pricing go to pricegrabber.com and pricewatch.com.

You missed the deals floating around on the netgear and the SMC. They were dirt cheap! (like $50 and under after rebates). If you dont need it yet, just wait for a deal.

I use the SMC too. Do a search in the Hot Deals forum -- I think someone else is offering it for $49 post-rebate with now...

Yeah, I have two of the SMC's. Outpost has it for $50 after mail in rebate right now.
