It's such a new CPU that there are no "great" deals on it yet. Demand is still high for it.

The best deal I saw was at Fry's Electronics (on at their retail locations), which had an OEM E4300 and a cheap ECS motherboard for $149.

This isn't a price search engine, it's a General Hardware forum.
Please don't ask for "best deals" here. Do your own price hunting. :|

Well, there's no harm in asking if he's getting a good deal or not. Not everyone is an expert and knows a good deal when they see one. Computer components are quite complicated when it comes to pricing.

Blain,

Please forgive me if I have offended you and taken up your precious time in reading my ill-suited post. Unfortunately, the post was intended not to help me "price" the current market rate based on freely accessible search engines like you suggested, but to find those great deals that you normally won't see on those engines.

The above poster jpeyton posted a Fry's deal for the e4300 that I had not seen or heard of, and I would say, would have been an excellent deal on the e4300 if I had taken advantage of it.

That was the intention of this post. So please forgive me once again if this post does not meet up to your standards. Also forgive me if I have appeared lazy or stupid by not specifying in my original post that I had already done an exhaustive search on the pricing engines. Maybe I should put a warning in the title header of this post that this post may waste one's precious time by reading, just in case someone as yourself should stumble upon it and get angry and frustrated.

Sincerely,

Pradeep

im on the verge of buying cpu as well but am waiting for it to drop down a little. last week newegg had it at 177, then for 1 day it dropped to 175 then went back to 177 and on sun it was jacked up to the 189 its at now!! mircocenter has it for 165, not sure how much is shipping though.

http://www.microcenter.com/byos/byos_si...roduct_results.phtml?product_id=252152

now in the main title it says "boxed", does anyone know what that mean?? is that in reference to it being retail??

I believe when they say boxed, it means retail, but I'd check the SKU or call customer service to make sure. OEM has no heatsink, and I think the warranty is lower as well. As for microcenter, I checked out your link, and shipping for me was $11.00, so no big advantage over Newegg.

I hope Fry's brings out that CPU + mobo combo again for $144 (in Atlanta). I would have a friend who lives two miles from the store pick that up for me and I would sell the ECS board on eBay for $30 and maybe score the e4300 for $114.00. That would be sweet.

I think the reason Newegg was bouncing around in prices was because when I saw it last, they had it for $177 + $6.97 for 3 day shipping. This new $189 price is with free shipping.

But it is a premium product as others have noted. One thing though, I have been hearing since the 24th of January that this CPU will drop $50 within two weeks time. Don't know if that is just rumor, conjecture, or BS, but if it drops $50 by March, then that would be great.

If you plan on overclocking, you may want to take a closer look around the forums and elsewhere. It seems several people are disappointed with their overclocks. I was leaning towards one of these based on initial reviews, but now I'm not so sure...

Bryan,

What are you seeing in terms of overclocks. My thoughts were that since the e4300 supports 800 FSB and has a multiplier of 9x, that you could get better overclocks with this CPU than with the e6300. The main reason I am going with the e4300 is because I can pair it with an ASRock 745VSTA and reuse my old DDR400 memory and my expensive AGP video card. If I get even 2.7 GHz, I'd be happy.

I have only seen this cpu with free shipping and thats when it was 175, 177, and now 189. it has always had free shipping and I check it daily and havent seen them charge shipping on it at all!!

for me shipping at micro sent was 6 bucks, which would make it 168 shipped from them, so a bit better then newegg at the moment!!

Well, i just got mine delivered today from Newegg for the $177 price. Unfortunately, after I ordered I decided that I wanted to go back and get teh 6400 instead. Does anyone know how easy it is to exchange an item with them?? I send them an e-mail the day after my order was placed (sunday) and the order is on my doorstep as I type this. I guess they don't read their e-mail very often!!

Try talking to them first, and see if they'll waive the restocking fee. If not, just sell it on the FS forum or fleabay.

BTW, that microcenter price is the best I've seen aside from the OEM $150 price of Fry's.

I think you may be right. I may have confused this with something else. Yeah, I rechecked Microcenter and it is $162.00 + $6.00 shipping, but I think they are going to charge me sales tax, as they have a store in Georgia. If that is the case, then I am looking at about $180 for the CPU.

I have found Newegg to be excellent in customer service, especially if you are going to upgrade the CPU for a more expensive one. As long as it has not been opened and you are willing to pay the fees to ship it back to them, they should waive the restocking fee. I buy a good deal of stuff from them and once I had to return a some RAM that I bought that was not compatible with my mobo. They took it back and refunded my money fully even though the packaging was opened, but I had to pay shipping.

Yeah, I seem to be the benchmark for this stuff. The day after I buy something, it seems to drop 20%. Because of that, I tend not to ever look at pricing again after buying something to avoid this frustration. :(

Seems that the price is steady at $175 shipped from Newegg. I will probably wait until the first week of March and then just buy it.
