what's the best deal right now for a pretty cheap graphics card that's crisp with vivid colors, and fast at doing 2D, with no consideration of 3D performance or features?

2D speed wise I don`t think there`s a lot of difference between them ,for top 2D image quality a Matrox G550 is excellent and cheap price wise.

Any Radeon card or GF4MX or GF FX5200 should offer acceptable 2D. Obviously, Matrox still leads in crisp 2D, but their cards should be slightly more expensive than others.

If the prices are the same, consider an FX5200, as it should be the only card in that group qualified for Longhorn's (MS's next version of Windows) fancy 3D desktop (which required DX9).

interesting. haven't heard about a DX9 desktop... sounds cool. it could be the first DX9 software the FX5200 is actually fast enough to run... :)
