eVGA has those in stock and sells them directly for 360$.
This is the cheapest one I have seen online, matching newegg... (which was price gouging like crazy, I don't know how come it is suddenly cheap)

They also have the 8800GT 256MB for 230$ which is actually a little steep. But at least it is in stock (and you should have no problem stepping up to the geforce9 when it comes out).

There have been threads about this ... though I don't remember where they are. A little help?

EVGA "says" they are in stock, but when you order one, you find out they are on back order. I specifically emailed EVGA about the stock issues, and received an email reassuring me that their company would be able to meet demand. That was 3 weeks ago, and since then I've seen 8800GTs actually in stock on newegg for like maybe 5 minutes once (though I don't have time to camp their website), and read more than one thread from people complaining that EVGA claimed that they had cards in stock when they were on back order.

I've never owned an EVGA card, but people seem to like them a lot quality wise. I think they are having a hard time coping with the Xmas demand, however.

Yes, that is the 8800GT 512MB, which is now listed as backordered... only the 256MB version and the GTS 512 are listed as in stock.
They might be in the same situation, but they might not be. You can order one and see if they ship it or not. (and if not cancel)...

People tend to like eVGA for their long warranty, free shipping both ways on RMA if you register the product, step-up program, and the fact you can use a non stock cooler without voiding your warranty (as long as there is no physical damage to the card)

Don't drag your feet if you're considering buying. Buy the EVGA now and do your research later. Trust what you've read thus far...
