So what're the best DDR4 OCs you guys have seen out there? I took a look at XS, but most of their information is from posts in 2014/2015. That doesn't say a whole lot about the kits that are available right now.

Assuming the stars line up correctly, there may be a Summit Ridge in my future, and I want to start checking out RAM first since I will probably strap an NH-D15 with three 140mm fans to that CPU. High-profile RAM with huge heat spreaders may represent a problem.

If I could find sticks like these:

I would be pleased. Well sort of. It looks like the D9RGQs from 2014 were hit-and-miss. I have no idea what's on the market these days!

But I would not mind DDR4-3000 CAS/CL 12! Or heck these would be fine:

But again . . . Nov 2014.

So what's working well on the market right now? DDR4 has had time to mature, etc etc.

Also on the off-chance that I go Raven Ridge instead (or something similar) I might want more clockspeed rather than tight timings, and that's a whole 'nother ball o' wax. So in that cirucmstance, DDR4-3000 CAS/CL 12 might not be so impressive.

I'm interested in this too.
I'm wondering how the sticks with samsung chips are comparing to the crucial chips.
I think samsung is using a smaller lithography (even smaller than their ddr3 magic ram), but i'm not sure what the crucial ones are shipping with.

I do know that DDR4 binned for high speeds/relatively low CAS/CL numbers is fairly cheap thesedays. 16GB DIMMs are also becoming more common, and we don't know a lot about their clocking potential.

If I were to go for an AiO instead of an NH-D15, that would open up the entire "obnoxious oversized heatspreader" DIMM territory without having to do any surgery to remove such nonsensical structures from the RAM.

Okay, I wanted to add that a bit of research has revealed what appears to be a decent 2x8Gb kit that would cooperate with the D15:

DDR4-3733 CAS/CL 17 may not perform much better than, say, DDR4-3000 CAS/CL 12, though there is probably room for tweaking this kit at high voltages. Regardless the heatspreaders are small, and if raw clockspeed is a must then this is one of the few kits that actually delivers it. DDR4-4000 and higher is still not all that common . . . most of the kits I've seen feature 4 GB DIMMs:

It would still be better from a non-iGPU perspective to score some generic OEM sticks and squeeze DDR4-3000 CAS/CL 12 out of them, I would think. It would certainly cost less to do so, and you could probably afford to buy replacements if burning out one or two here or there.

16 Gb sticks seem to be limited to DDR4-3333 or lower for now:
