best DDR Athlon XP mobo out there???

I'm looking into upgrading my system a little bit, and I want something based on the Athlon XP processors with DDR RAM. Well, I haven't been keeping up much with the upgrading seen for quite some time now, so I don't know what's good and what's not. What are the better 2 or 3 motherboards out there with the configuration I'm looking for? Thanks for help, and links to some reviews to those mobos would be appreciated too 🙂

Posting this in the motherboard forum would be a good start.

There is no 'best' board - it's like Ford vs Chevy - each has it's pluses and minuses. You need to state what you are planning to do with it, do you plan to overclock, do you plan to use RAID now or anytime soon, do you have any components you are going to bring with you (sound card meaning you don't need a board with built-in audio, etc.) and so forth.

For overclocking, the abit k7ra (with or without raid), the asus a7v 266-e, or shuttle ak35gtr with ata 133 support and 6 channel sound. For value (no overclocking), the ecs k7s5a (uses either sdram or ddram). The k7s5a is very picky about power supplies. I would recommend a minimum of 350 watts and go with a sparkle, enermax, or antec with any of these boards.

asus a7v 266-e is not a very good candidate for overclocking. It is however, a very stable and solid board with a voltage problem.

I've become a big fan of my IWILL XP333-R, although it really shines with an unlocked processor.

I'd look at something along the lines of a Soltek SL75DRV5, or an Asus A7V333

they are based on the KT333 chipset, which is hitting shelves now.. jump on the latest and greatest bandwagon and you won't be left behind quite as quickly if you were to buy something that has already been out for a few months... if i was going to upgrade right now, i'd get a KT333. (for AMD platform)

The Epox 8KHA+(VIA KT266a chipset) is very stable and great overclocker,it might be worth going to the KT333 boards like the Epox 8K3A+
if you feel you need the latest, remember the KT266a may be little old now but are very stable and have a proven track record, can`t say the same for KT333 yet.
