So I'm looking for the best Radar Detector out there. What would you recommend for me and why? I'm going to be mounting it onto my Suzuki Gs 500 but don't let the fact that it's a motorcycle hinder recommendations for a larger sized unit.

First and foremost what is the best that money can buy and what does it have over the others?

and then what is the best one within $200 - $400?

THANK YOU !

The consensus seems to be that the Valentine One is the best, and it has been for years. It costs $399. One recent, ringing endorsement was that the lunatic who just broke the coast-to-coast speed record used a Valentine One as part of his cost-no-object effort (he also had a radar jammer, a carload full of various Uniden scanners and CB radios, chase planes, etc., and drove an E39 M5 with racing clutch and exhaust). They also have a piggyback unit specifically for motorcyclists that lets you output the audio warnings to headphones.

I believe the Escort Passports are regarded as second best, and test ahead of the V1 in some tests.

Thanks a bunch, I googled "best radar detector" and the Valetine one popped right up too. Where did you hear about this guy? Is it a testimonial on the website for the V.O. ?

And what in the hell is a Uniden scanner?

V1 or 8500. I have an 8500 and it hasn't failed to let me know of a speed trap or approaching cop in the several years I've owned it.

Bel Sti Driver is up there too, even higher price, lower than the V1 on laser, but better radar detection.

i love my valentine. the biggest drawback is depending on what setting you have it on, there are A LOT of false positives.

Valentine One - 9 hits, 3 bands, 2 directions
--picture i took in a parking lot... two local cops parked outside a kohls and left their radar on and the rest are lots of automatic doors.

---

several of my friends use the V1 so i don't feel as assured using another brand personally, but i believe escort or passort (i forget which is the brand and which is the model) is coming out with a model that has built in GPS so you can mute certain hits based on your location? that might even be already available, i have no idea though.
