Best current Verizon cell phone?

If signing up for new service, what's the best phone Verizon currently offers (best irrespective of price, and more importantly, best at a reasonable price).

Main priorities would be voice service (reception, voice quality, battery life). Websurfing probably not really necessary.

And is the replacement warranty they offer worth it?

I just picked up the LG VX8700 for $50 when renewing my plan. So far I like it. Voice quiality is better than my old phone, camera is great. I had my last phone for over 2 years though, so i'm not the most up to date.

Samsung phones used to be good a couple years ago.

Are Samsung clamshell cell phones still good? And what about the specific ones Verizon offers?

Current Verizon plans offers a Motorola V325i free with 2 year contract.

I lost my beloved E815 over the past weekend & after much deliberation I replaced it with a RAZR maxx VE for $100 + my "new every 2" upgrade. Bad news is I'll be returning it tomorrow because although the 2mp camera, music player & high-res screen are all very nice, its just not great for phonecalls due to mediocre reception plus intermittant static, texting is slow & battery life is terrible.

Assurion is now out of new E815's so I'll be getting an LG VX8300 instead tomorrow as an insurance replacement & if it works well I'm going to keep it until Verizon releases somthing better, but if I had to get a new phone from them right now I'd go for the LG enV Orange.

I'm loving my Samsung u740, which is the one that can flip either horizontally to feature a keyboard or vertically for the phone aspect. I do a lot of texting and e-mailing on the go so it's extremely handy, plus it's pretty dang thin (which is why I chose it over the enV, which seemed too clunky for my tastes). I'm also a fan of clamshell over candybar just because I always get the feeling I'm going to break the screen on candybars. I'm not even worried about throwing a clamshell in my pocket without a case. I had a SLVR for a while and was scared to death of ruining the darn thing.

I picked up a Motorola Q recently. The call quality is really great, even better than my previous quad-band Motorola v710. I am somewhat disappointed in the Internet (slow) and usability of the apps (Google Maps is way too hard to use), but the call quality is good enough that I'm probably going to keep it. It's very slim and fits in my pocket (front or shirt) perfectly. You will definitely need an extended battery; Seido makes a good 2100mAh replacement (that's what I got). You will also need a screen protector.

UPDATE

After using the LG VX8300 I received as an insurance replacement for my E815 I'm very pleased & will be keeping it ... the music player works great right out of the box & sound quality is very good, plus it doesn't have the annoying lag when texting that drove me nuts with the RAZR maxx VE.

That's the one the Verizon rep said was the best, and a quick Google Search pulls up lots of positive feedback too.

:)

The LG 8300 is an EXCELLENT phone. The MAXX VE, unfortunately, is very hit-or-miss. Some people get a great one first time, others it takes 4-6 replacement phones to get a good one.

On that note, you can pry my Alltel-flashed KRZR K1M out of my cold, dead hands.

Mine didn't seem to have any of the serious problems folks were complaining about on Howardforums, its just that it wasn't really any better then my E815 or the VX8300 I have now & thats why I returned it... the slow texting seems to just be the way that phone works. Also it seems that Verizon has exclusive rights to the maxx for the time being, so the chances of a similar Alltel firmware fix like you got for your KRZR are slim.

Yea, that's why I'm not buying a MAXX VE. The exclusivity will probably run out after the V9M comes out. And THAT'S not Verizon Exclusive :D

I"m using my "New Every 2" upgrade tomorrow - Trying to choose between the Samsung u740, LG VX8600 (upgrade for free), and the LG VX8700 (for $50). Is the 8700 worth the extra money? All the phones have pretty decent reviews.

I could do that at this point too, but honestly I am happy with my V3c, and I am intrigued enough by the iPhone that I don't want to lock in again with Verizon.

Warning: the Bluetooth on the VX8700 is absolutely abysmal. reception is measured in inches with my Plantronics Voyager 520 headset and my Thinkpad X61t laptop, and is highly dependent on phone/device placement AND orientation.

Which might be too bad, since he might've liked the Dare! I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one...
